The Parade Committee is thrilled to announce that Morrison’s Academy Pipe Band will be the official band of the New York Tartan Day Parade on Saturday, April 5th.
Morrison’s Academy, situated in Crieff in Perthshire, Scotland, is an independent school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. It was founded in 1860; its motto is Ad Summa Tendendum (To Strive for the Highest) and it has enjoyed more than 150 years of success grooming boys and girls to be educated, knowledgeable and upstanding citizens.
Their Pipe Band was formed in 1921 and has thriven now for more than 90 years; it currently has 50 members between 8 and 18 (with a couple of adults thrown in). They are rightly proud of their standard of playing, of both traditional and contemporary music. You can hear them on YouTube and you can see and hear them live and in person at the Parade on Saturday, 5 April.
They will also be playing at a lunchtime concert in Bryant Park on Monday, 7 April. By way of background, two 15’-tall scale models of Glaswegian artist Andy Scott’s 100-feet high The Kelpies sculptures can be seen in Bryant Park from March 19 – April 22. In order to showcase the sculptures, there will be a series of lunchtime concerts during Tartan Week, and Morrison’s Academy’s contribution will be Monday, the 7th.
