Alan Cumming was a wonderful Grand Marshal in 2009. We all loved him; the crowd, the marchers, and the Committee, and he himself had a most enjoyable afternoon. All to the sound of bagpipes. It was an afternoon with a purpose, though, to remind New York of Scottish-Americans and the rôle we play in New York and indeed the whole of America. When he heard that we had a new website, here’s what he wrote:
“I am a proud citizen of both Scotland and America and so nothing could have pleased me more to be the Grand Marshal of the 2009 NY Tartan Day Parade and to help celebrate the contribution of the Scots to American culture. I am very excited about the brand new website and I wish the Parade Committee all the best in their future endeavors.”
Thanks to Alan for letting us use this photograph of him. Thanks also to Francis Hills (www.francishills.com) for being such a talented photographer. Alan Cumming’s latest movie is “Any Day Now” and you can, of course, continue to check him out on television as the fabulously manipulative lawyer in CBS’s “The Good Wife”.
